A female journalist from East Kurdistan has been arrested in Sulaymaniyah. The coordinator of Metro Center says the arrest has nothing to do with media work.
A Journalist named Sayran Hawzhin has been arrested in Sulaymaniyah. She previously worked in the media of the Kurdistan National Alliance Party.
"What we have been told is that the charges against the journalist have nothing to do with media work," said Rahman Ghareb, coordinator of Metro Center, who investigated the case.
The coordinator of Metro Center for the Protection of Journalists' Rights said: "The fact that the arrest of Sayran Hawzhin has nothing to do with her journalistic work does not mean that we support the charges against her. The principle of suspicion must continue because the authorities are always on the battlefield for journalists.”
"We are trying to find out which prison Sayran Hawzhin is in so that we can meet with her up close,” Ghareb said.
Karwan Anwar, president of the Sulaymaniyah branch of the Kurdistan Journalists’ Syndicate, told Rudaw on Monday, "No agency has come to tell us that their journalist has been arrested, and no one's family has asked us to investigate," "We will discuss this with the security forces today to find out the reason for her arrest," he said.
