A French diplomat: We take the work of metro very seriously




On the sidelines of the International Conference "Voice of Women Without Borders" which was held in Erbil (on May 3rd-4th, 2025), the Coordinator of Metro Center met with Ms. Isabelle rome, French Ambassador for Human Rights.
 
The meeting lasted more than an hour, in the presence of Jan Braim, Consul General of France in the Kurdistan Region, was dedicated to the situation of press freedom and the situation of civil society organizations and the opportunities and obstacles facing their work.

The French Consul General welcomed the presence of Metro Center in the activities of the International Conference "Voice of Women Without Borders", today's meeting with Ms. Isabelle Rome, which is within the framework of his country's importance to human rights in general.

The French Ambassador for Human Rights said that this meeting with Metro shows that we attach importance to the work of Metro and its goals for freedoms.

Metro Center Coordinator Rahman Ghareb thanked Jan Braim, French Consul General in
the Kurdistan Region for his invitation to attend the conference and organizing this meeting.

He also highlighted the opportunities and challenges facing freedom of the press and freedom of information in the light of Metro’s 2024 report and the recommendations submitted to the Kurdistan Regional Government to remove obstacles and increase opportunities to provide a safe environment for journalists.

During the meeting, a constructive and important discussion was held on the situation of civil society organizations, their working space and the independent media institution and its problems.
