Metro Center celebrates Journalism Day with the world, emphasizing its principles in continuing the struggle for a legal and professional environment in which journalists and their agencies can work effectively and independently, in a truly free pluralistic environment to gain the trust of society.

On Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, in Sulaimani, in the presence of a number of journalists from different agencies, hosting Dr. Saman Fawzi who presented a lecture titled "Ethics of Media Coverage of Murder Crimes, Right to Information and Protection of Victims' Dignity” which continued until 3 pm from 9am.

Diyaree Mohammed, Director of Metro Center, while congratulating Kurdistan journalists, said that we celebrate the day with the world, emphasizing our principles in continuing the struggle for a legal and professional environment in which journalists and their agencies can work effectively and independently to gain the trust of the community.

Diyaree said the 2025 report, released by Reporters Without Borders on May 2nd, highlights the poor economic situation of independent media in the world, which threatens their plurality and independence. "In the Kurdistan Region, the conditional aid of political parties and their companies has restricted information and does not reach the recipients as it is," Diyaree said.

"The Kurdistan Regional Government should have a clear policy of obliging companies to support independent media without interfering in the newsrooms and media policies of their agencies," he said.
On the occasion of World Journalism Day, Metro Center issued a statement warning of the danger of using artificial intelligence (AI) as another tool to produce false news and gamed information or violate fundamental rights of citizens.
