A delegation from the British Consulate in the Kurdistan Region consisting of Dr. Hanar Ma'roof and Tom Heaps, political department officials, visited Metro Center.
The coordinator of Metro Center welcomed the guest delegation. He hoped that they would succeed in their duties and continue to discuss the civil work environment and freedom of expression with civil society organizations.
Tom Heaps was pleased to meet Metro Center’s team and hoped they would continue to monitor the situation of freedom of expression and defend media freedom. He described the work of Metro Center as important.
In the meeting, Diyaree Mohammed, Director of Metro Center, Shaee Aso, Coordinator of Network 19, Sewa Sirwan, Head of Metro’s communications, each presented several topics related to the increase in protests, freedom of expression and the working environment of journalists.
Metro’s coordinator Rahman Gharib said that despite the obstacles, freedom of the press has an opportunity to play a role in developing a constructive dialogue between political forces and the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region Kurdistan people for a decent life. "It is also important to work as civil society organizations to combat hate speech and advocate for peaceful coexistence and respect for the differences and demands of the Kurdish people for a decent life," he said.
They also discussed the environment of civil work and journalism, reports of Network 19, statistics of violence against media teams and several other topics.
