Metro welcomed journalist Mohammed Nuri

The meeting between Metro’s team and journalist Mohammed Nuri was an opportunity to discuss the situation of Kurdish media, freedom of expression and the ways in which Metro Center monitors this issue.

The meeting discussed the repression of media freedom based on the data of Metro Center, which coincided with the concealment of the information that serves the public interest, despite the increase in lawsuits against activists and citizens for publishing their opinions on social networks, preventing expression and gathering in public places.

We agreed that arbitrary arrests, violence and beatings, attacks on media teams and torturing them in police detention centers and security prisons, lack of fair trials and sentencing of journalists and activists, threats and intimidation, discrimination and lack of information, closure of civil space; have not been the subject of the Iraqi election campaign and most candidates are hiding from these issues.

Part of the meeting was devoted to listening to the prediction of Metro Center’s director, Diyaree Mohammed for the participation rate and the distribution of seats in the Kurdistan Region for the Iraqi elections.
