Metro welcomes the Netherlands embassy in Iraq




Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Janet Alberta, expressed her pleasure for the continued work of Metro Center in the field of freedom of expression and journalism and hoped that they would continue to grow.

On November 26th, 2025, the team of Metro Center welcomed (Janet Alberta) Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Iraq, accompanied by (Leike Brand) Political Ambassador.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Iraq, Janet Alberta, said, "Our relationship with Metro Center has continued both during my work in our consulate in Erbil and now that I work as ambassador. She also expressed her pleasure for the continuation of the work of Metro Center in the field of freedom of expression and journalism and hoped that they will continue to grow.

Rahman Gharib, coordinator of Metro, welcomed them and spoke about the preparations of Metro Center for the announcement of the report on the situation of press freedom for 2025, in which Metro Center as a civil society organization monitors the implementation of press laws, right to information law and records violations against journalists.

There is also a report on the situation of freedom of expression prepared for the first time by Alliance Network 19.

In the meeting, which was attended by representatives of Zoom TV, KNN, Awene, Khendan, and Westga News, each separately discussed several issues related to the daily work and obstacles to the implementation of the law on journalism and right to access information law in the Kurdistan Region.

Diyaree Mohammed, Director of Metro Center, highlighted the electoral environment and violations of electoral laws and regulations highlighted in the monitoring reports of civil society organizations.
