On Monday, June 8th, 2026, Andrew Bizley, British Consul General in the Kurdistan Region and a delegation from Metro Center along with the Director of Zoom Channel held a meeting in Sulaymaniyah.

The British Consul General was pleased to have the opportunity to exchange views with Metro’s team during his visit to Sulaymaniyah. In their opinion, Metro's position and views on the human rights issue in the Kurdistan Region are important.

Rahman Ghareb, Coordinator of Metro Center thanked the Consul and his team for their attention to human rights, civil society and media freedom and highlighted the new developments, like how political money is becoming more active and effective in blockading what remains in the media and culture.

He highlighted the strike of Sherwan Sherwani, the closure of NRT offices in Erbil and Duhok, the closure of the main studio of Zoom in Sulaymaniyah, the arrest of journalists outside the journalism law, and the importance of monitoring the prisons in the Kurdistan Region.
