Metro Center organized an open discussion in Erbil




Today, August 11th, 2026, in Erbil, in collaboration with the French organization CFI, within the framework of Qarib project, Metro Center organized an open discussion roundtable for several government officials, academics, journalists and media workers, entitled, "Professionalism in Kurdish Media in the Midst of Internal Conflicts"

The conference was conducted by Ghazi Ali, Director of Speda TV, Raman Majid, Advisor to the Kurdistan Parliament, Dr. Nazakat Hussein, University Professor, Zito Siani, Former Head of UNAMI in the Kurdistan Region, and Diyaree Mohammed, Director of Metro Center.

The discussion focused on several important issues related to the current situation of the Kurdish media, including issues such as the professionalism of the media and the duty of journalists in maintaining social peace, media freedom space in the Kurdistan Region, the need for the Kurdish media to calm rather than escalate conflicts, as well as the issue of freedom of expression and media freedom within international standards, was another topic of discussion.

Finally, the door of opinions was opened to the participants of the discussion and several different and important ideas that can serve to improve the professionalism in the Kurdish media were presented.

Meanwhile, today, Metro Center celebrates its 17th anniversary. 17 years means 17 reports on the state of press freedom, means 17 years of defending the rights of journalists, 17 years of fighting to create a healthy environment in which press freedom is guaranteed.
