On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Sewa Sirwan, Head of Communications at Metro Center, participated in an open discussion organized by the Women’s Affairs Section of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The discussion followed up on a previous meeting held to discuss the situation of female journalists and the challenges they face and aimed to reassess their current situation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ashti Abdullah, Adviser on Women’s Affairs, welcomed the participants and, after outlining several key points related to the meeting, opened the floor for discussion.
A number of female media professionals and experienced journalists from diverse backgrounds and media organizations attended the meeting and enriched the discussion by sharing their views on the situation.
During the meeting, Sewa Sirwan highlighted the most significant types of violations and challenges faced by female journalists and documented by Metro. In response, she presented several proposals and recommendations aimed at improving the situation and creating a calm and safe environment for women to work in journalism.
