Sulaimani, July 14th, 2025: Network 19 strongly condemns the shooting of participants in the demonstration in Warte district, which killed an unarmed citizen and injured three others.

Last night, citizens of Warte district of Erbil province took to the streets and demanded their right to basic services, using the highest tool of democracy: peaceful demonstrations.

 

Instead of implementing their legitimate demands or protecting their constitutional and human rights to assemble and express themselves, they were subjected to violence, resulting in the death of a demonstrator named Hassan Abdulrahman, an emergency defense policeman with five children.

The video posted on social networks shows a gunman dressed in civilian clothes shooting and attacking a citizen, a clear scene of the brutal repression of peaceful expression.

Network 19 strongly condemns the killing of the unarmed citizen and injuring others during a peaceful demonstration, which is a flagrant violation of the right to life.

Coalition 19 emphasizes the right to peaceful demonstration as a fundamental right that must be protected in accordance with the constitution and international human rights conventions.

While solidarity with the families of the victims of this crime to bring justice, Network 19 calls on civil society organizations to put pressure on the relevant parties to bring justice and prevent the repetition of such tragic incidents.
