Sulaimani, July 17th, 2025: Network 19 strongly
condemns the attack on forensic investigator, critic and human rights activist
Shuan Sabir Gardi, and calls on the Interior Minister to conduct a serious
investigation into this incident to reveal the perpetrators and not escape
punishment.
At 1 pm on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, three cars
stopped Shuan Sabir on the 150 meters street in Erbil, opposite Spanish village
2, then attacked him from all sides.
"Two cars came in front of me and the other one
attached itself to the back of my vehicle so that I could not escape,"
Shuan told Network 19, "Six or seven people from all three vehicles attacked me
with punches and pistols and tried to get me out of my car,” he said.
"Then, when they got tired of beating me, told me not to talk about the
government again."
After receiving treatment in the emergency department of
Rzgari Hospital, Shuan Sabir went to the Perzin police station and filed a
lawsuit, 24 hours have passed since the incident, and no one has been arrested.
"The street is covered with government surveillance cameras
and private cameras of the projects,” Shuan said. Shuan Sabir Gardi, head of
the Justice for Prisoners Network in Iraq, is a member of the Board of Trustees
of the Public Aid Organization (PAO), and a forensic investigator at the
Kurdistan Regional Government's Prosecutor General's Office.
On Monday, March 3rd, 2014, Shuan Sabir Gardi was
sued by the Judicial Council for posting a statement on his social networking
site. He was arrested by the Erbil court on the same day. He was detained in
Mahata prison for four days.
At that time, Metro Center and CDO organized a rally in
Sulaimani demanding his release.
