NRT is viewed as an enemy




Metro Center calls on the civilian and military institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government to end the threats and pressures on the work of journalists. Instead of the provisions of the Iraqi Penal Code, the Journalism Law should be used to resolve the cases of journalists. NRT’s director should be released.

Today, October 26th, 2025, Shaqlawa district court issued a 15-day detention order for NRT’s director, Shuan Adel. The Eylul Foundation has previously filed a lawsuit against the channel.

According to the daily monitoring of the situation of press freedom by Metro Center, NRT reporters are being pressured, and their freedom of work is being restricted in most cities of the Kurdistan Region.

On Friday, October 24th, 2025, NRT team members were attacked and detained for a while in Shamamk district of Erbil's central district.

The Kurdistan Region is more advanced than other parts of Iraq in legislation, such as laws on journalism, the right to information, organizing demonstrations and combating domestic violence, but their importance is in their implementation.
