Sulaimani, January 4th, 2026: Alliance Network 19 is concerned about the raid on the house of Dilshad Mirani, a member of the protesting teachers' council and his arrest without clear charges, calls on the security committee of Sulaimani to explain the reason for his arrest.
Dana Mahmoud Tofiq, brother of Dilshad, told Network 19 that a force raided his brother's house on Saturday night January 3rd, and arrested him. "There are no legal or personal problems. We don't know why he was arrested," he said. "It is likely to be related to the protests and statements about the salaries of citizens," he added.
In a video posted on social networks on Saturday, he called for the payment of the salaries of employees and teachers cut by the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region, which is more than 46 salaries, for which he announced a boycott on Sunday, December 4th, all across the Kurdistan region.
Dilshad Mirani and thousands of Kurdistan Regional Government employees have the same demands from the Iraqi and Kurdistan Regional Governments. So, they would raid the house of any citizen who asks the government to repay their debt in the middle of the night and would throw them in prison?
We at Network 19 are concerned about the raid on the house of Dilshad Mirani, a member of the protesting teachers' council and his arrest. We call on the security committee of Sulaimani to explain the reason for his arrest.
Dilshad Mirani is a prominent activist in Sulaimani, who participated and supervised the past demonstrations of teachers and employees. In late June 2025, he was arrested by the Sulaimani security forces and released after remaining there for two days, along with dozens of other detainees.
