On his seventh day as British Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, James Goldman visited the Metro Center and said that he deemed it quite important to meet with the Metro team to hear different viewpoints and opinion in Kurdish society.
This Tuesday evening, 30 /01/ 2024, the team of Metro Center received and welcomed Mr. James Goldman, the British Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
The British Consul General expressed gratitude to the team for their warm and cordial welcome and said, "Today is my seventh day of work and I visit Sulaymaniyah city, we deemed it important for us to meet with your team to find out your opinion and viewpoint on the situation of freedom of the press."
He also added "We listen to different opinions and learn from them," and confirmed that "You are doing an important job in a difficult situation.”
In this meeting, Metro team which made of Diyari Mohammed, Hazhan Khalid, Shwan Jamal, Paryan Ahmad, Sewa Sirwan, shed lights on the most important stages of the situation of press freedom in the Kurdistan Region in the light of the latest report of Metro which was declared in the middle of this month in Sulaymaniyah city, the capital of culture of the KRG.
Raman Gharib, the organizer of the Metro Center welcomed and received the Consul General and congratulated him for commencing his post and taking the office.
The Metro organizer stated "We would like to meet with your Excellency in a better situation, but apparently the destiny of this part of the world, including Kurdistan,
confronts with war, blockade and intimidations from Baghdad and our surroundings." Raman Gharib further added "We appreciate your visit and appreciate your team for continuously supporting press freedom and supporting us on the issue of convicted journalists,".
In this meeting, which was attended by each of Mr. Sirwan Gharib, Editor-in-Chief of Westgate News and Ms. Ala Ahmad Ibrahim, and warm discussion was held about the obstacles and opportunities in the journalism working environment.
At the end of the meeting, the British Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, James Goldman, thanked the Metro Center and its team for their warm and cordial welcome, and he also invited the Metro team to Erbil to continue and complete the discussions.
