Metro: Journalists and women candidates must be protected from violence and harassment




Metro Center called on the Dutch Consulate and EU diplomats to help conduct an election campaign that is based on the rules and system of the election campaign, protect women candidates from harassment and journalists from violence.

On August 20th, 2024, the team of Metro Center welcomed (Jort Posthumus), Deputy Consul General of the kingdom of the Netherlands, (Ciska De veld), Second Secretary for Political Affairs.

The Deputy Consul General of the Netherlands thanked the Metro Center for its welcome and praised its work and positions in monitoring and defending press freedom and called for highlighting the opportunities and obstacles facing press freedom.

Metro’s team warmly welcomed the guest delegation, in addition to the annual report, they discussed the daily obstacles facing journalists in coverage and obstacles to access to information and the tightening of the media discourse of political parties before the start of the election campaign.

The Metro Center called on the Dutch Consulate and EU diplomats to help conduct an election campaign that is based on the rules and system of the election campaign, protect women candidates from harassment and journalists from violence.

The Deputy Consul General of the Netherlands agreed that during any election process, all competing lists should be encouraged to comply with the laws and regulations and differences should not cause deviation from the rules drawn up by the High Election Commission.
