Syrian TV presenter killed in Israeli airstrike

Safaa Ahmed, a presenter for Syrian state television, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Damascus.

According to foreign media, in the early hours of today, Tuesday, October 1, a residential building in the "Al-Mezzeh” neighbourhood of Damascus was hit by a missile strike, resulting in several casualties and injuries.

The Syrian state news agency also reported that the Syrian army’s air defense engaged with the incoming missiles over Damascus. Images shared on social media show at least one building in Damascus being hit, along with videos of the Syrian air defense countering hostile targets in the sky above the capital.

The news agency, quoting a military source, stated that at around 2:05 a.m., Israel launched the attack from its airspace, targeting Damascus, which resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to nine others.

Syrian state television confirmed that one of the victims of this attack was Safaa Ahmed, a presenter from the state-run media outlet.

It is noteworthy that Israel launched a three-phase attack on the Syrian capital earlier today, Tuesday, targeting various areas, particularly the "Al-Mezzeh” district in southeastern Damascus.

The sensitive and important area of Al-Mezzeh in Damascus was one of the areas targeted by the Israeli military.

The recent Israeli incursion into southern Lebanon has significantly escalated tensions in the region, with Hezbollah threatening retaliation and concerns growing about a broader conflict. The ongoing military operations risk drawing in more regional actors, further destabilizing an already volatile situation.

This escalation has raised alarms within the international community, which fears a wider war involving Israel, Lebanon, and potentially Iran. Diplomatic efforts are urgently needed to de-escalate the situation and prevent further humanitarian crises in the Middle East.
